bind my heart

bind my heart to the holy interests of that unseen world. - DOPP, John Baillie

S. Blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed. John 20:29 - Streams in the Dessert Aug. 31

O. Sometimes God has to keep away encouraging results until we learn to trust without them.

A. I have to learn to look away from myself and trust God alone and then I will see that what God promises He will perform.

P. Father God, help me to put you first. Help me to put all of my trust in you. You will help me do things I thought impossible. Help me believe! Amen.

This fall is going to be full of things I would have thought impossible 5, 3, 1 year(s) ago. The biggest of which is I will be helping co-lead a mom's group at my church and I have to share my story in front of the women in a couple of weeks. At this point I don't even know what that story is or really how to summarize it. Accepting this role has brought about many emotions I didn't know were there. I feel beyond blessed to have even been considered for such a role but then it brings up all of those voices inside my head of how unworthy I am. So I wanted to stop by here today and share what I'm going through. The truth is, is that God has put me here for a reason it is not by mistake or coincidence, now I pray that I believe He will get me through and help me not continually beat myself up and doubt myself along the way. I am so grateful for the moms that have come along side me and that is one of my biggest reasons for being a part of this mom's group. Praying for a year of  meaningful togetherness, growth and support....and that I can figure out what I should talk about and that it makes sense!

Pray, Pray and then Pray again.

Here I am o Lord, here my prayer.

Change is on the horizon with the ever creeping fall season. We decided months ago that Hannah would be going to public school this fall and with that brings much change. The house will be missing two little feet running around all day, it will be quieter and both of us will gain a little breathing room in different aspects.

Danny will still be at home and I'm looking forward to spending some one on one time with him. I just realized that I got to have Hannah to myself up until she was two and now I get to have Danny for two years to myself until he heads off to Kindergarten.

I'm trying to spend this time preparing for the fall, reflecting on how far we've come, soaking up the summer with these little precious people and peaking over the horizon to what is next.

Change is coming as it always is and all I can do is pray...pray pray pray.

The Delight of a Quiet Radical

Surely then you will find delight in the Almighty and will lift up your face to God. Job 22:26

Learning to live in grace is bringing more delight than I could have ever imagined.
Embracing the path that God has chosen for my life has brought peace, assurance and clarity.
I was searching for what was right in front of me the whole time. Looking for some way to serve other than what was laid before me. You are where you are for a reason, God does not make mistakes.
Opening my heart to God, sharing my desires, asking for guidance and being willing to go his way has made all of the difference in the world.

For me it was realizing that my ministry was in my home with my little ones. To lead them to Christ through our special time together daily. My time will come when I am supposed to be out of the home, but that is for another season. I had been struggling with this for a while and I was completely oblivious of the task I had before me. God has blessed me with a very special lady in my life who told me to read the blog post that she just wrote about this very subject.

God used my dear friends words to speak right to my heart, open my eyes and allow me to embrace this season rather than fight it. It's funny, even though we planned on starting a family, made a way for me to stay home and agreed to homeschool, there was still part of me that was fighting this whole season. I got sucked into the everyday mundane and didn't really see any delight in what I was doing. I had lost sight that what I was doing could be the most important thing I do in my life. God had already been working on my heart and through Joy's post he helped me see the truth and find purpose.

I realized that I am a quiet radical doing my part right now for God's kingdom. I am part of a movement, some might only see as wiping noses, bottoms and messes as I did before, but I've learned that it is a movement that can make a big difference in the future. I'm learning to find delight in these everyday tasks of this very short season. I'm on a mission, I'm part of a movement, I am a quiet radical!

Will you make your declaration and join me in the movement?

Before Five in a Row: Blueberries for Sal

((Hannah is 3 1/2))
((Danny is 1 1/2))

We're back! After a long hiatus we're finally back at doing intentional school. December and January were full of being sick, mainly me. I was sick for 3 weeks in December through Christmas and the New Year and then a couple of weeks after I started feeling better I got sick for another 2 weeks in January. So it has taken me a while to get back to doing school. I also knew it was time to transition to a different method. Hannah and I were both ready to move on from our normal Tot School activities but I wasn't quite sure what to do in between before we start official preschool in the fall.

Sometime in the middle of being sick I had tried our first go at Before Five in a Row with Jesse Bear, what will you wear? It was fun but seemed like a lot of work. So while I was taking my hiatus and trying to figure out what to do I realized I was making "school" too difficult on myself. Around mid-March I came to the conclusion from some very special ladies that God has placed in my life that I was making a lot of things in my life too difficult. I had to be reminded that my mission in life right now are these little ones that God as blessed me with. I kind of forgot what my blog is even about, doh. But the Lord has so patiently wrangled me back in, refreshed my spirit and renewed my purpose.

Once I gave this "problem" to the Lord and asked to follow his guidance for our schooling, discipleship and over all future, everything started to fall into place. Planning has been easier, reading has been easier (even though we're still working on listening and being quiet, if you mama's have any advice I'll take it), and the activities have gone smoother. I really feel the Lord holding my hand through this one.

Part of what has made things easier is that I'm going with the flow more. Not everyday looks the same in our house, we have a lot of appointments and outings through the week, so I've had to take everyday as it comes. In the past if we didn't do school in the morning then it just didn't get done. Now I can move it around without a worry because I'm making it a priority. So if we do not get home until noon, then we have our lunch and then read our B4FIAR book of the week,  after we read I usually will put Danny down at this point for a nap and then I have time to spend one on one with Hannah doing our activities for the day.

On the days that we are able to get it done in the morning Danny gets to join in on the fun. He gets to have his table time with different tot school activities, mostly fine motor skills at the moment. He is still 6 months to a year behind in this area, at least according to the occupational therapist's evaluation. But like everything in his life since his birth, he does things at his own speed and I'm fine with that.

He's very serious about his play-doh and straws.

Usually this time will mean that Sissy is doing the same thing, at least after she does some of her activities. Danny's activities always look like so much fun.

When we first started B4FIAR I was worried about reading the same book for five days in a row but it has actually turned into a great blessing. The kids and I soak up more each day. I see more things to discuss each day and the stories get easier to read. It is great when Hannah finishes parts of the stories or remembers what is happening, that gives me hope.

She had a blast with Blueberries for Sal and her blueberry hunt. I luckily happened to have a little tin pail and alot of blue pom poms.

Completely unrelated to the book we made some cloud dough for some good 'ol sensory play. Hannah did not like it at first but once she saw Danny having a good time making a huge mess, she decided she would try a little bowl. Mama had to dig deep and not worry about the mess, it felt great letting go. The kids had a blast and it wasn't a big deal sweeping it up.

Below are pictures of some more blueberry activities we did. We made a blueberry pie with construction paper and blue paint.

Above is a picture of some letter/phonics work we are still doing. I'm trying to keep incorporating a letter every week. They are completely unrelated to the book we are rowing but I'm hoping it helps keep her fresh until preschool starts.

Some of the activities that we did and are not pictured (but available on my instagram) are we made giant blueberry pancakes with homemade blueberry syrup for lunch one day and we worked on some of the worksheets from Homeschool Creations & My Four P's throughout the week.

It was a great week full of many blessings, we look forward to many more rowing adventures.

Confidence...

For you have been my hope, O Sovereign Lord, my confidence since my youth. From birth I have relied on you.
Psalm 71:5-6

Confidence is something I've always struggled with. It's funny because if there is a situation where I'm caught off guard and have to be confident I will be and be fine with it. But if there is something that I need to be confident for in the future I will struggle with self doubt up until the moment arrives, during the moment and then tear myself apart afterwards, telling myself how I should have handled things differently.

Self doubt is super ugly, it is the enemy doing what he does best. It is a quick and easy way to isolation. Which is another thing I've dealt with for the past few years. But through diligent prayer God has seen my hearts desire and has slowly started opening doors for me. I put my trust and hope in Him; and by doing so I've caught myself many times saying that I would never have thought I would be where I am, doing what I'm doing, thinking what I'm thinking and surrounding myself with the people that I am. It has only been through God's grace, mercy and true love for me that I can say these things.

The only way that I have confidence is through Him, He is my strength. My confidence comes from the hope that I find in Him, through trying to have an eternal perspective. Not that it's always easy and I get side tracked alot but it is what I have to come back to, the truth.

The confidence I speak of isn't me telling myself I'm so awesome, look great or feel better than others. It is a confidence to face my fears, to live everyday with His new mercies, to know His love and kindness, to know that I do deserve these things and finally the biggest thing I'm learning is to show these to others without fear of rejection. I guess, the confidence to be vulnerable. Though it might be scary; to do it anyways, knowing that God is there, He has my back, He is my confidence.

O Lord God Almighty, who is like you? You are mighty, O Lord, and your faithfulness surrounds you.
  Psalm 89:8

Daily Bread

I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you. Psalm 119:11

This is such a great verse because it reminds me of how important it is to read and study the Bible. It is our instruction manual for life, our daily bread.

Daily Bread, The Word,
The Good Book,
The Bible

Whatever you want to call it, I NEED it.

The more I immerse myself in the Word, the closer I feel to God. The closer I feel to God, the more Christlike I want to be. Not as in being perfect, but as in loving, compassionate, patient, gracious, obedient, joyful, kind, understanding, etc. Things I have majorly lacked in through the years, and I mean majorly. I wish this wasn't true but it is. I know I will still sin but the hope is that I will be more conscious of what I'm doing. To take my thoughts captive. The main goal is to hopefully break the chains that bind me to my sin, even if it a little at a time. I just keep trying. I know I will never be perfect and that is not what I'm aiming for....just better than what I was before. Thank you God, for your new mercies every morning and for redeeming me.

I just recently read James 1:13-15 which explains that once desire is conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full grown, gives birth to death. Unfortunately I am a sinner born into a broken world that's why I need God's grace through Christ. That's why I need my Bible to navigate my journey.

Working at Resting

She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. Proverbs 31:27

Lately, I've been really struggling with my priorities. Just like right now I should be cleaning or doing something important but I really feel the need to post this. Thanks to @nataliecreates over on Instagram with her Question of the Day: How do you prioritize self-care? or her blog Natalie Creates I really felt the need to talk about this.

I feel like I'm always trying to get my priorities in check or in balance. I know what they are and what order they come in but actually keeping it balanced all the time is a struggle. I don't think I am alone in this but in my mind I feel like I am. I feel like I'm the only one who doesn't have it together, no where near together. But thanks to Natalie's post I am reminded once more that most people don't have it together and if you think they do, there are probably other areas you don't see that they struggle with.

The older I get though the more comfortable I am getting with "things just are the way they are". I'm doing the best I can, to keep my family happy, me happy and sane. The house is just always going to be in a perpetual mess as long as I have a 3 year old and 16 month old trashing it. That's the way it's supposed to be right? Messy house means happy kids or so I'm told. There are days when I wake up and once diapers are changed and breakfast is doled out, usually whatever self-feeding food we have around I will just start cleaning. I won't shower or usually even change my clothes. I just clean clean clean, then the afternoon comes and I realize I stink, look horrible and feel horrible and the house still isn't the way I would like it and the areas that are nice won't be like that in a couple of hours. There are days when I feel like not even trying. The only area I really work on daily is the kitchen and without a dishwasher and no help it really is a chore. How did they do it back in the day? I realize they didn't have several electronics and blogs pulling them this way and that but I've tried days with no phone, computer or TV and it's still a huge struggle. The Greatest Generation is my favorite generation though I'm not a part of it but sometimes they make me feel bad. Not their fault and I'm sure there were plenty of families back then that didn't have it all together, you just don't see that on TV or in photos.

This post isn't about giving up though or feeling bad about things. It's just about sharing the truth and stating that I'm not giving up but I'm also not striving for perfection. It's about the fact that I can rest in Him and He doesn't care if my house is messy. He's that best friend that will come over for coffee amongst all of the mess and really talk about real things. He will rest my soul and remind me that all I need to focus on is Him and all else will fall into place.

"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest".  Matthew 11:28

ABC Scripture Challenge Word #1, Anchor

Welcome to the ABC Scripture Challenge. I found this challenge on Patter Cross's blog Triple the Scraps recently while perusing some blogs I follow. Around that time I was looking for something fun to do and here this was. A way for me to craft, study the bible and share it on my blog. I'm starting very late in the year but Patter has the inlinkz up for quite a while so I have time to catch up and post my thoughts and pages. The challenge is to study a word in the bible from each letter of the alphabet, share your thoughts on the verse or verses you find that pertain to that word and create a memory page about that word and scripture. Patter announces the new words that you are to study.

Challenge Word #1 Anchor

To me an anchor can mean to be secure, whether it's not moving because the anchor is set or the feeling of safety. My anchor in this storm called life is God. He gives me security when I cannot find it any other place.

Another way I look at the word anchor is by thinking of my faith. Had I not been anchored with my strong faith in my early adolescence, I wouldn't have had it to turn back to after years of trying to control my own life without God and failing miserably. That anchor of faith kept me grounded and though I strayed far away, when I was ready I was able to follow that rope back to find my anchor, Jesus.

It is God who arms me with strength and keeps my way secure.

2 Samuel 22:33

Encouraging Word Wednesday Week #3

First off this week I have a little note to share: Encouraging Word Wednesday is not intended to sound preachy, I'm not a theologist, just a follower of Christ looking for a place to share what I'm learning as I go through life's journey and while I learn of Christ's love for me. I figured my blog was the perfect place to do this. I love hearing and reading encouraging words throughout the day, so I wanted to share what I learn.

For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh. This is a profound mystery- but I am talking about Christ and the church.

Ephesians 5:31-32

Right now  in church we are participating in a program from Family Life called the Art of Family Series. There are 6 parts; God's heart for Marriage 1&2, God's heart for Men, God's heart for Women, God's heart for children and God's heart for singles.

This has been a very profound learning experience for my family. In this world today our marriages are under attack by many influences. We constantly hear of unfaithful spouses, divorces, abandonment, the list goes on and on, sadly. But in this series we are learning that our marriage is to be a mirror image of our relationship with God. In essence we are married to God. When we take our vows we're actually vowing to God. Our marriage is to be treated as a covenant not a contract. You don't make contracts with God. People break contracts all the time these days as they do marriages, but a covenant is not to be broken.

Divorce has been made so easy these days, that when times get tough people just call it quits. It's hard not to think it's okay when someone like Pat Robertson of The 700 Club tells a man it's ok to get a divorce when his wife has Alzheimer's. That couldn't be anymore against the basic vow of "in sickness and in health".

Life isn't supposed to be easy, we don't know what the future holds for our health. But abandoning your spouse when they get an incurable disease and when they need you most, that's a slap in their face and in God's. So now you don't get what you want, you think your spouse wants to live like that? This is the best time to turn to God,  no it's not easy, but you made a vow to your partner and to God. God will not turn you away, He will get you through.

No I haven't personally gone through this myself. And I know it's a horrible disease that makes taking care of your spouse extremely difficult, but even if I needed outside help, like a nurse or a home, I wouldn't dare turn my back on my husband that has loved and cared for me for so many years and I won't dare turn my back on my vow to God.

He reached down from on high and took hold of me, He drew me out of deep waters.

2 Samuel 22:17

You are my lamp, O Lord, the Lord turns my darkness into light.

2 Samuel 22:29

Have a great day!

Encouraging Word Wednesday

And we pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God being strengthened with all power according to His glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and joyfully giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light. For He has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son He loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

Colossians 1:10-14

Well I was only going to talk about Colossians 1:10 but then after reading through 14, I wanted to include it all. To me this verse pretty much sums it all up.

The first part of this kind of ties into last weeks verse to me. By this I mean, in everything you do, do with delight and to please the Lord.

The rest of this verse means to me that God has given us everything, if we choose to accept it and live to please the Him. He has laid everything out for us, giving us a place for eternal life with Him and forgiving us of our constant sin. Though I try my best to live a Christian life, it's not always the easiest thing to do in this horribly dark world, none of us are perfect, I screw up all the time, in fact yesterday I took the Lord's name in vain twice, once when Hannah got ahold of a sharp knife (now I know she can reach up on the counter), that's only one of the sins I commit throughout the day. But as I'm going about my day and catch myself I ask for forgiveness and try to do better and guess what; I'm forgiven. I'm not saying go through each day doing whatever you want and at the end of the day go down your list asking for forgiveness. But it's nice to know that even when you screw up, even if it's sometimes intentional you will be forgiven. But always, always, try to do better in the future. God knows your heart and intentions.

Everything good is right there waiting for you, all you have to do is reach out, grab it and serve to the best of your ability.

After I wrote this draft yesterday, I heard a song that emplifies the last part of this verse more to me. Very powerful.

Sidewalk Prophets - You love me anyway

Hope you have a great day!

Encouraging Word Wednesday

"Holiness does not consist in doing extraordinary things. It consists in accepting, with a smile, what Jesus sends us. It consists in accepting and following the will of God."
Mother Teresa

I read this today in my devotional and started really thinking about it and how it can tie to my life.
We're not all meant to be Mother Teresas. Most of us will sail through life never accomplishing huge feats like she did. But even in our everyday life the tasks that don't seem like much are big. As mothers God has given us a huge job, we are to raise our children in hopes that they become upstanding citizens, followers of Christ, caring people, that might one day accomplish huge things. This then got me thinking about a song I've been hearing alot lately.

After hearing Steven Curtis Chapman's new single "Do everything"

I started thinking alot about what I do around the house and with the kids. I thought though they might seem small now they are tasks that will help shape my families future. Some days when you've picked up the same toys 3 or 4 times (only because you keep tripping on them), had no time to take a shower, had no time to blog or craft, or dealt with a sick baby that didn't let you put her down all day, you are exhuasted and might seem defeated. Trust though that every little thing you do is important and part of God's will for your life. Delight in the fact that He has chosen you to multiply and care for His flock. Though the daily tasks you do might seem tedious they are part of caring for your husband, children and home. The gift and job God has chosen for your life. Do these things with a smile on your face, as long as you are following God's will to the best of your ability you will be blessed.

To hear about Steven's thoughts behind his song click here:

Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God's grace in its various forms. 1 Peter 4:10
